Mildred B. Cooper Memorial Chapel
Located along a winding path amidst the rich flora and fauna of Bella Vista, the Mildred B. Cooper Memorial Chapel stands tall, rising up to 50 feet into the surrounding tree line. This iconic structure comprises 15 identical Gothic arches, each made from a whopping 31 tons of steel. The Chapel is surrounded by solid field stone walls and is adorned with 4,400 square feet of cut sheet glass. When natural light filters through the glass panes, it creates leaf-shaped patterns that dance across the Chapel's floor, which is crafted from native limestone and flagstone, as envisioned by the architect E. Fay Jones.

Since its opening in 1988, the Chapel has hosted numerous weddings and events, while also offering a peaceful sanctuary for meditation and reflection to both locals and visitors from across the globe. In 1993, following the completion of the nature trail that wraps around Lake Norwood, the Chapel and its surrounding grounds were included in the Arkansas Registry of Scenic Resources by the AR State Park, Recreation, and Travel Commission. The Mildred B. Cooper Memorial Chapel has since been recognized as "the most beautiful place in Arkansas." Learn more
